Following on from the taster day, for anyone who fancies more playing with clay I’m doing a series of 6 clay workshops, one a fortnight, at Rhydymwyn Nature Reserve. It will be hand building clay using pinch pots, coils, or slab building and you will be able to make anything using these methods from something small, like coasters, to a large sculpture. These sessions are suitable for beginners to more experienced users of clay. Below are some examples from the small robin to the two large female figures.
You’ll need an apron, a rolling pin or bottle to roll out the clay, wetwipes, soft paint brushes, and a sharp knife. Also, objects to make marks in the clay -eg: screws, shells, pine cones, stones, lace curtain, bubble wrap; anything around the house that you can press into the clay to leave a mark if you want to texturise it. You will also need some muslin or cotton to wrap your piece in and a plastic bag to put over it so that it stays soft until the next session. There will be room at Rhydymwyn to store your work until the next session.
It would be a good idea to bring a small sketch book to put your ideas in and make notes of methods if you wish. If you know what you want to make bring pictures of similar things to have a reference.
