I moved to beautiful North Wales after thirty years living and working in Northamptonshire where I was Arts officer for Daventry District Council, curator for Sulgrave Manor, Creative Practitioner for Magdalene College School, adult learning tutor and practising artist.
I currently continue to run art holidays for http://www.sketchtrips.co.uk/sonia-hawes.html and will be taking groups to Suffolk, North Holland, Portugal and Cornwall in 2019, see website http://www.soniahawes.co.uk for details. I am continuing to work to commission and am a member of North Wales Urban Sketchers, have sketch days with friends and regularly attend the Ruthin Life Drawing group. I run workshops and do talks for art groups and others, see my website for details.
I am passionate about art and love to pass on my enthusiasm to others and write regularly for ‘Paint’ magazine. Sonia is a professional Associate of the SAA
What they said:
“My first experience of any holiday with a theme or in a group! Immediately felt comfortable within the group, so well organised and looked after. I had never tried sketching, or any form of Art and found tremendous encouragement, helpful critique and support from Sonia, and the whole group. I came home enthusiastic to find the time to continue, join a class, as so relaxing! What have I missed all my life, by saying I can’t draw! I can!”

‘I can’t explain what these classes have done to my life, I now have a purpose every day, I draw and paint everything I see in the house to learn, I so look forward to the classes on a Wednesday to get out of the house and the company of all the others – we have a laugh, I am no longer lonely as I just love to get up in the morning now and paint some animals, a huge thank you to Sonia for enriching my life.’ Mary Morgan.
– “Thanks for the lovely session and inspiration. Now must search for that sketchbook” – Lynn Magorrian – student, after her first class at Litchborough.
