I have painted since I was a teenager, taking numerous art-related courses and qualifications through the years which culminated in a BA (Hons) in Design (Illustration) in 2002. Textiles and felt-making have taken over completely from the painting since then as I keep finding new and exciting pathways to follow.
I prefer to work with natural wool fleeces with their mellow colours and wonderful assortment of textures. I have an addiction to collecting all manner of ‘finds’ including small rusty objects, shells, sea-washed glass and other exciting ephema left along our coast line. I feel that these fit perfectly onto felt backgrounds or vessels. Rusting fabrics, hand-dyed fabrics and well-worn fabrics work well together to make up ‘Boro’ type pictures on which I like to add a little hand stitch.
I am currently taking a City and Guilds in Felt-making, and am a joint organiser of the North Wales Felt-makers, a member of Chimera Textile Group, the North Wales Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild and the IFA.
